The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
