Reports indicate that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

A Significant Reunion for Fans

Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their appearance will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, given that the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This signifies the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.

The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

• Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.
