Rise, Sir David: Football Legend Honoured by the Monarch at Windsor Castle Investiture

David Beckham was bestowed with a honorary title at Windsor Castle on Tuesday. The former England captain, 50, was one of the individuals receiving awards for his services to sport and philanthropy. In recent months, he expressed he was “extremely honored” of being recognised in the monarch's annual honors list.

Soccer Achievements

Beckham first appeared in England's top division for Manchester United in 1995 and was a key member that secured a dramatic European Cup win in 1999 when they beat Bayern Munich with two late goals.

Overall, he netted 85 goals and garnered accolades including multiple English championships and domestic cup wins as a soccer professional, before ending his playing career in the past decade. Alongside his football career, he has supported a number of charity causes, including acting as a charitable representative for global aid group the United Nations Children's Fund since 2005.

Philanthropy and Beyond

In the previous year, Beckham, who has referred to himself as a “devoted monarchist”, was appointed an official representative for the royal educational charity, an educational charity founded by the King in 1990. In 1998 he was declared most stylish man of the year by a leading publication and he has posed for companies such as the fashion retailer, the Italian designer, and Boss.

David married his wife Victoria in the turn of the millennium and the couple have four children together – their eldest, Romeo, the third child, and their daughter.
