'Living a Nightmare': Relatives of Unaccounted For Young People Await Answers After Ski Resort Fire
The loved ones of young people lost after a tragic blaze at a bar in a Swiss ski resort are enduring an painful wait for official news and requesting information about their family members via social media.
The blaze engulfed the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Confirmed images reveal the ceiling catching alight as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have warned that it could take an extended period to formally name the fatalities of the tragedy, which killed four dozen individuals and hurt another 119. A spokesperson stated on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been accounted for, with the process ongoing to locate the remaining few.
In the waiting period, relatives have been posting on the internet to plead for information about their friends who were in attendance that evening.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an public plea from his parent.
The who lives of a town near Lausanne, told a publication that she had returned to Lausanne to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the equivalent search in the capital, but could not find him.
"This is a living nightmare, a horror. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she said.
She continued that some of his companions had been located with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through hell."
The Italian government has said that a number of of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, who hailed from Italy but now residing in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who represented dedication and authentic values."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.
Further Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His parent told reporters that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"Someone with him said they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his educators stated, "I remember his kindness and smile, coupled with great maturity. Every time ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek nationality but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to reports.
Her sibling has shared an appeal on social media, saying the family has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the situation.
