It: Welcome to Derry Releases Second Early on HBO Max
Excitement is building for the Stephen King adaptation Welcome to Derry, already receiving positive feedback and weaving in elements from additional King stories. Just one day after launch, the broadcaster has revealed that episode two will premiere ahead of schedule, scheduled ideally for October 31st.
Early Release Details
Starting on the last day of October at 3 a.m. EST, the second episode of Welcome to Derry will make its debut on the streaming service, before its Sunday HBO premiere. Subsequent episodes of the series run will continue to air on Sunday nights on the network and streaming service, culminating in the final episode on Sunday, December 14.
Show Background
Set in Stephen King’s It universe, the new series borrows elements from the classic book while enlarging the universe brought to life by the It movie director in the two It films. It Chapter One centered on young characters battling unimaginable horrors, making it appropriate that the prequel follows in those footsteps. However, the first installment of HBO’s Welcome to Derry demonstrates it set out to escalate the fear, delivering even more intense scares than the movies and setting a harsh vibe for what's to come.
Premise and Ideas
Taking place in the 1960s, the series introduces a different group of parents and youngsters residing in a outwardly charming locale hiding a dark secret. Derry operates on a brutal, periodic loop—defined by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a terrifying being returns each 27-year cycle. Even though the series might appear like it leans too heavily to the cinematic adaptations initially, what differentiates the HBO Max series is its parallel storytelling—unfolding through the eyes of both children and adults at the same time. The kids are especially susceptible to It's terror, but older characters aren’t spared confronting their personal demons born from local discrimination and lurking supernatural forces.
The series debuts on the 31st of October at 3 a.m. EST.
