Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
