Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport In the Wake of Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage

A technical fault at Edinburgh's ATC meant no planes could arrive or depart from the facility.

Passenger services have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a major technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended due to an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are expected to persist for some time. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with many others subject to postponements.

Officials had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their booked journeys," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

Officials linked the full ground stop to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the hub as residual delays are cleared.
